What makes Johnny Latch by Jake® unique?
Johnny Latch by Jake® is the first universal, retrofitable kit of its kind in the marketplace. It´s unique qualities stem from the fact that it fits virtually all toilet stall configurations and handing. Johnny Latch by Jake® will fit in-swing, out-swing and "alcove" styles (right or left hand) with the parts contained in each kit. Johnny Latch by Jake® will fit any toilet stall door ranging from ¾" to 1 ½" thick. Each Johnny Latch by Jake® kit contains all the parts, mounting hardware and instructions necessary to accomplish the installation!

Will Johnny Latch by Jake® fit ANY toilet stall door?
The only type toilet stall doors that Johnny Latch by Jake® is not designed to accommodate are standard 1 ¾" doors with conventional lever or cylindrical locksets on them. Even in those instances, Johnny Latch by Jake® could be made to work by using a special adapter plate (JLAP101) and longer screws. Johnny Latch by Jake® is not only unique but, also extremely versatile.

Can I use Johnny Latch by Jake® in place of original equipment?
That´s the very reason Johnny Latch by Jake® was developed. It is virtually impossible to obtain OEM parts for toilet stall doors from distributors, architectural supply firms or contract hardware firms unless you can identify the manufacturer of the partitions and contact a distributor for that brand hardware.
Johnny Latch by Jake® is a single, universally, retrofitable kit that replaces difficult or impossible to find OEM equipment and provides the added benefit of being ADA and Life Safety Code compliant.

Some of the stall doors in my facility have gaps between the door and the pilaster; can Johnny Latch by Jake® be used on those doors?
The design and engineering unique to Johnny Latch by Jake® allows it to be self-adjusting up to ¾" and still maintain its latching capabilities to insure the privacy of the person utilizing the stall.

Some of the stall doors in my facility are in-swing and some are out-swing, does Johnny Latch by Jake® have a kit to fit either type door?
Johnny Latch by Jake® works on virtually ANY toilet stall door configuration. Left-hand, right-hand, in-swing, out-swing, "alcove" style and any door thickness up to 1 ½"! As I mentioned earlier, it´s a unique and extremely adaptable product.

Why should I install a Johnny Latch by Jake® when I can have my maintenance men install barrel bolts or other type locks?
Barrel bolts, slide bolts, hooks and eyes and other ancillary hardware present a number of safety issues. Life safety codes mandate that the doors to a toilet stall must be operable from the outside in the event of an emergency. Barrel bolts, slide bolts, etc. do not comply with that mandate. Johnny Latch by Jake® does.
Also, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1993 require the hardware on toilet stall doors to be easily operable without any "tight gripping, grasping or turning". Standard bolts, slides and latches violate the ADA mandate. Johnny Latch by Jake® does not.
By installing Johnny Latch by Jake® rather than standard hardware that is not designed to comply with the various codes and federal mandates, you are assuring your customers, employees and visitors that you have their welfare, privacy and safety foremost in your mind.

How difficult is Johnny Latch by Jake® to install?
Any relatively competent installer, maintenance person, locksmith or individual can under normal circumstances, install Johnny Latch by Jake® in fifteen minutes or less! All that is needed are a few simple tools and a drill motor.
Johnny Latch by Jake® kits utilize double-faced tape on crucial parts to assure instant alignment of those parts. Each escutcheon, stop and keeper is backed with double-faced tape to insure accurate placement. Each part functions as its own drill guide, which allows accurate drilling for screws and other hardware.

How durable is a Johnny Latch by Jake®?
Johnny Latch by Jake® is made from stamped and formed aluminum for durability. It is "clear" anodized for an attractive, long-lasting finish. The lever spindle has a shear strength of 3,000 pounds. We feel it is "durable" enough to warrant each Johnny Latch by Jake® for the life of the installation! We will replace ANY Johnny Latch by Jake® that fails for ANY reason.

If a Johnny Latch by Jake® breaks, or is broken by vandals, can I get spare parts?
Yes! Each Johnny Latch by Jake® instruction and installation manual has a parts list. Those parts are available directly from the manufacturer.
However, Johnny Latch by Jake® carries a limited lifetime warranty on each kit installed. Consequently, if a part breaks, wears out or is vandalized, we will replace the entire latch, under the terms of our warranty, at no charge!
